Update 15/9/17

Neath Port Talbot Council held a public meeting on Thursday 7th September regarding the landslip at Pantteg.

The meeting was held at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and was attended by more than two hundred people.

The Leader of the Council and a number of council officers answered questions for more than two and half hours from residents and others with an interest in the on-going landslip situation in the area.

During the meeting, council officers agreed to a number of actions.

In relation to the affected terrace of ten properties:

We have already sunk one borehole to the immediate north of the affected terrace and subject to agreement from the relevant landowner we will be sinking an additional borehole to the immediate south of the affected terrace. We will contact the relevant land/property owners to allow us access to carry this out.
In agreement with the private land owner the culverts and watercourses on the mountainside above Cyfyng Road/Graig Y Merched have been cleaned.
For clarity purposes, the road through the village will remain open without a weight restriction unless we receive expert evidence and advice to the contrary. Council workers will be on site again next week to carry out surveys to support this monitoring and evaluation work.

In relation to the wider Pantteg area:

In terms of the draft Hazard Plan and the next steps, we will continue to monitor and collect data from digital surveys and mapping, borehole investigations and slope analysis work.

The evaluation of this data will enable us to prepare an assessment of risk in relation to property, infrastructure and land within each of the hazard zones.
As soon as the results for these have been obtained, the Council will update residents in the area.

Access to Information

At the meeting, residents asked the council to provide additional documentation in relation to the landslip area. Officers are currently collating all the relevant information and we will make this available on our special Pantteg Landslip webpage www.npt.gov.uk/pantteg as soon as is practicable.
